This is a gorgeous Monanthes polyphylla succulent starter plant. It has been rooted and established. This beautiful plant is native to the Canary Islands. It lives in mountainous regions at an altitude between 3000 to 3500 feet. Monanthes polyphylla is one of the twelve species of the genus Monanthes, of the Crassulaceae botanical family. The plant tends to grow in small clumps, and the rosette is dense, round, and a gorgeous bright green. The leaves are soft and fleshy and arranged in a Fibonacci spiral. The plants produce small pink and purple flowers with petals that are covered by short hairs. They enjoy an environment of indirect sunlight. Placing the plant in a window that is East or West facing is wonderful for them. These plants love a combination of peat moss, perlite, and sand with a slightly acidic pH level of 6.0 to 6.5. This soil mixture provides good drainage and aeration. It does not have to be watered until the soil is nearly dry. A cool winter location at temperatures between 50° and 59°F is required to get this plant to bloom. The minimum winter temperature is 41°F and will not survive a frost. It will grow well outdoors year round in USDA zones 9 and above. Indoor containers can be moved outside for the growing season but need to be acclimated gradually to prevent sunburn. They should be protected from excess rainfall and must be moved back indoors before any frost. These amazing succulents are very easy to grow and maintain. They make wonderful gifts!
