This is a gorgeous String of Pearls succulent. It has been rooted & established. This beautiful plant is native to South Africa and produces long trailing stems of pea shaped leaves. These leaves are used for water storage in drought conditions. The strings often grow under bushes or between rocks, which provide some protection from intense sunlight. It has round shape leaves to minimize the surface area exposed to dry desert air, which will reduce water loss due to evaporation. The String of Pearls makes a wonderful houseplant or an outdoor ornamental in climates that do not frost over. It is often grown in hanging baskets. This allows the trailing stems to spill downward. It also will grow well in a flat dish. This will allow it to maintain the natural trailing growth habit of the plant. The amazing trailing strings can grow to lengths of up to 5 feet long. These plants love a full sun environment but will tolerate times of shade. It will enjoy a well drained succulent or cactus soil that is peat free. It does not have to be watered until the soil is nearly dry. A cool winter location at temperatures between 50° and 59°F is required to get this plant to bloom. The minimum winter temperature is 41°F and will not survive a frost. It will grow well outdoors year round in USDA zones 9 and above. Indoor containers can be moved outside for the growing season but need to be acclimated gradually to prevent sunburn. They should be protected from excess rainfall and must be moved back indoors before any frost. These amazing succulents are very easy to grow and maintain. They make wonderful gifts!
