BLUE & WHITE PORCELAIN

Blue and white porcelain, also known as Baidi blue and white porcelain, often referred to as blue and white, is one of the mainstream varieties of Chinese porcelain and belongs to underglaze colored porcelain. Blue and white porcelain is made of cobalt ore containing cobalt oxide as the raw material. The ceramic body is decorated with a layer of transparent glaze, and it is fired in a high temperature reduction flame. The cobalt material is blue after sintering and has the characteristics of strong tinting power, bright color, high sintering rate, and stable color. The original blue-and-white porcelain appeared in the Tang and Song dynasties, and the mature blue-and-white porcelain appeared in the Hutian kiln of Jingdezhen in the Yuan Dynasty. In the Ming Dynasty, blue and white became the mainstream of porcelain. It reached its peak during the Ming Dynasty Xuande. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, derivative varieties such as blue and white multicolored, malachite green glaze blue and white, bean green glaze blue and white, blue and white red color, yellow ground blue and white, and Ge glaze blue and white were created.

WHY PORCELAIN?

Porcelain is the hardest ceramic and fired at the highest temperatures, usually above 2300 degrees F. The high percentage of kaolin, a white clay mineral, in porcelain results in a smooth, highly refined surface. When fired to a kiln’s high temperatures, porcelain fuses together into a glassy, nonporous surface that creates our complete unique shapes and lets it stand up to the strain of everyday use.

These make spectacular gifts!
